Why Rotational Moulding?

Rotational moulding has many benefits over other moulding processes including:

  • Product strength- Create seamless products with no joints or welds — perfect for strong, hollow components.
  • Lower tooling costs- Simpler mould design means lower upfront investment.
  • Short run friendly- Cost-effective for low to medium production volumes.
  • Variable wall thickness- Adjust wall thickness to meet performance or weight requirements.
  • Moulded-in metal inserts- Add threads directly into the part during the moulding cycle.
  • Flexible colour changes- Change colours from cycle to cycle with minimal cleanup — ideal for product variety.

How the Magic Happens

Step 1: Resin Loading

Powdered polyethylene resin is carefully measured and placed into the mould. The amount (known as the shot weight) depends on the part’s size and wall thickness requirements.

Step 2: Heating & Rotation

The mould is sealed and moved into a heated oven while it rotates. As the mould rotates, the resin melts and coats the inner surfaces evenly, forming a hollow shape.

Step 3: Cooling

Still rotating, the mould is transferred to a cooling chamber. Cool air is blown over the mould using fans, helping the molten resin to solidify evenly.

Step 4: Demoulding

Once cooled, rotation stops, and the mould is opened. The solidified plastic part is carefully removed from the mould.

Step 5: Post-Mould Work (if required)

The finished part may undergo trimming, assembly, or other secondary processes as needed.
